How To Disable ‘Autorun.inf’ To Prevent Virus Attack Computer

Recently there are many cases reported that ‘autorun’ virus spread through so many computer due to heavy usage of flash memory or pendrive, so we need a preventive action to stop this virus from spreading to our computer.

When we insert a pendrive to computer, Windows will scan and check if there is any 'autorun.inf' file and then write it into 'mountpoint2' registry. 'Mountpoint2′ will amend the act to open a disk or pop up menu. Eventhough you might have already set up ‘disable auto play’, using right click, or use ‘explore’ to open the disk, the result will still run ‘virus.exe’.

Therefore, we need to ban the ‘mountpoint2′ registry area, and the method used is as shown below:

1.  START --> RUN --> Key in ‘regedit’ to open registry.

2.  HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\Microsoft\ Windows\CurrentVersion \Explorer\MountPoints2,

3.  Right click ‘mountpoints2′ and select ‘permission’

4.  Then click ‘Advance’, uncheck ‘Inherit from parent the permission entries that apply to child objects. Include these with entries explicitly defined here’.

5.Click 'Remove', 'OK', 'Yes' and 'OK'.

Now, eventhough you insert a pendrive which is infected with virus, your computer wouldn’t be affected.
