With Olympic athletes gearing up for the next meet, you’d think I’d be inspired to get out there and sweat. Not so much. Instead, these awesome athletes have inspired me to do what I currently enjoy the most: Search for baby names. There are a few that didn’t make my list simply because they are just a little too out there for a baby in today’s world. But their links to the Olympics are too strong to ignore, so here are some worthy of an honorable mention: Zeus, Hera, Hyleas, Appolo, and Vulcan (I mean, really. Who’s going to name their son Vulcan?).

Self-Healing Smartphone Screens Now A Reality

While there are people who treat their smartphones like a child, protect it with the utmost care, and making sure no one should ever put it in harms way, there are others who throw their phones around, leaving it naked and prone to a multitude of damages in use; the most common being screen damage. Now these irresponsible phone owners can worry less about the web of cracks that appear after a simple drop to the concrete because a group of Dutch researchers from the Eindhoven University of Technology have created self-healing smartphone screens.

All of us who have read about history of the evolution of the great computer know the fact that these machines in the beginning were giant and monumental sculptures of iron doing just simple calculations. So is the case with the HARD DISK. Once it was too a gigantic piece of antique art. An average 55 MB HDD measured 8-10 times the size of a regular 3.5” HDD we see today. The 1985 version of HDD was made entirely to fit your needs and not your desktop cabinet. Every level of storage added another level of recording disk which meant more space and money. The images given here compare an HP 7945A model of a 55 MB hard disk that was modeled in 1985 and cost around $7500.

A chicken can be hypnotized, or put into a trance by holding its head down against the ground, and continuously drawing a line along the ground with a stick or a finger, starting at its beak and extending straight outward in front of the chicken. If the chicken is hypnotized in this manner, it will remain immobile for somewhere between 15 seconds to 30 minutes, continuing to stare at the line.

Optimus Prime (born 1971) is a U.S. Army Ohio National Guard firefighter. His name is taken from the character of the same name in the Transformers cartoon series. He legally changed his name to Optimus Prime in May of 2001, on his 30th birthday, because the show character was like a "father figure" for him when he was growing up. His former name has not been disclosed. The name appears on his driver's license, military ID, and even his uniform. Maybe on his next birthday he'll be Megatron.
