The 10 Worst Films of 2013

Original source : http://www.slantmagazine.com

Author : Ed Gonzalez & R. Kurt Osenlund

Contrary to the curious, outspoken beliefs of some, we prefer to celebrate movies around these parts, culminating each December with our collaborative list of the 25 best films of the year. But while nearly all films deserve careful consideration, there are plenty that deserve a proper, vitriolic takedown, maybe even a warning label. Scraping the very bottoms of our moviegoing barrels, Slant's Ed Gonzalez and I winced as we remembered our worst film experiences of 2013. The five we each loathed most were compiled into a list of 10, and they're counted down here in our personal, descending orders of deplorableness. From the bloated egos of Ben Stiller and Tom Cruise to the masochistic horrors of military violence and high-end shopping, click on to see what almost drove us both out of the theater. {R. For all those looking for a private jet and not looking to break the bank, the HondaJet should definitely be in contention for your aviational needs. The HondaJet is the fastest and most fuel efficient aircraft in its class with a 420 knot cruise speed, a range of 1180 nautical miles, and a 30-35 percent better fuel efficiency at cruise speed versus other jets of comparable performance. HondaJet’s cabin is the clincher as it sets a new standard for interior space and comfort being longer than even larger ‘light jet’ offerings with space for a fully-private lavatory and a 57-cubic foot aft cargo hold.

Nuclear Holocaust
"One nuclear bomb can ruin your whole day." It was true back in the late 1950s, and it's just as true now. The world could end at any moment thanks to the countless nukes out there, just lying around. According to a 2010 Ploughshares Fund report, 22,000 active nuclear warheads are scattered around the globe. And that number doesn't include smaller - and therefore more susceptible to theft - nuclear weapons like atomic artillery shells and bunker busters. In truth, we're still exactly where we've been for the past 70 years: one international argument away from the end of the world.

The 5 Most Obviously Drug-Fueled TV Appearances Ever

5. Crispin Glover on Letterman
Date: July 28, 1987
Evidence: The first symptom is the wig. We're not sure what George McFly's hair looked like prior to this interview, but we're pretty certain it didn't look like that. Then there's the clothing. He's dressed in striped pants, a heinous purple shirt and a pair of black platform shoes that don't appear to fit him. Keep in mind that this is '87, not the early '70s. If you're wearing what Crispin Glover is wearing during this interview, then you've clearly been high long enough to have gone shoe shopping while f**ked up. As far as behavioral symptoms, we're not really sure how to describe what Glover is doing here. At first he seems to be terrified of Dave and the audience, but then he challenges Letterman to an arm wrestling match and tries to jump-kick him in the head.
Drug(s) They Were Probably On: Difficult to tell. At first it seems like a classic acid freak-out. He is looking at Dave like he has three heads and the audience like they're a big tangled lizard orgy. But then he starts getting physically aggressive. Our theory: a second drug along the lines of PCP, taken right before he went out, kicked in halfway through the interview.

5. Hyper-Sub
Not even James Bond would scoff at the beautiful Hyper-Sub. After all, how could he not want to step foot onto a $3.5 million submersible powerboat? This craft designed by Marion HSPD, will finally be heading to the production line. Of course $3.5 million may be a tough price tag to cope with, but you’re getting a rather powerful little toy in exchange. On the powerboat side, it’s a heavy-duty, 31-ft. surface-cruiser with an enclosed cabin. Powered by twin 440 hp inboard diesels for a total output of 880 hp, the Hyper-Sub has a maximum surface speed of 40 knots and a maximum surface range of 500 miles. In dive mode the Hyper-Sub can plunge up to 250 feet, and offers umbilical SCUBA support.

Today, there are only seven species of big cats that survived from what was - about 25 million years ago - a remarkably diverse group of large felid carnivores. These seven living species are classified into three groups that include the Panthera, Felis, and Acinonyx. Each species is quite unique and can be distinguished from the others by their different body size, behaviours, and appearance.

9 Best Air Purifying Plants

Your home, whether old or new, could be harboring unhealthy (and invisible) toxins. These chemical compounds are found in emissions from paint, plastics, carpet, cleaning solutions, and numerous building materials. Three major pollutants found in the home include:
Formaldehyde (carpet, upholstery, glues, paint, and more)
Benzene (plastics, synthetic fibers, lubricants, rubber, pesticides, and more)
Trichloroethylene (paint removers, rug cleaning solution, adhesives, and more)
Despite all these offenders we are lucky enough to have nature, which has a way of keeping itself clean. There are many powerful air-cleaning plants that naturally remove pollutants from the air. We picked nine of our favorites and offer tips on how to keep them in top working condition.
Tip: In a 2,000 square foot house, bring in 15 to 20 plants in 6-inch pots or larger. Rather than scattering single plants, create group displays in each room for a great look and maximum air quality. Adjust accordingly for larger or smaller homes. Before purchasing, ask about which plants, if ingested, could be harmful to pets.
